ABADDON:
In the season one finale of the “Doctor Who” spin-off, “Torchwood,” this monster is the thing that has apparently been hiding in the Cardiff Rift. I know for one I’m never naming a child this. I just get this image of a giant demon stomping around Cardiff, killing everyone who gets in his shadow. Nooo way, man.

ALEXIS:
This name almost sounds like the name of a car (Lexus). However, Alexis fitted someone who was a lovely, exotic and seductive princess of either ancient Egypt or Greece. She was the helper of her royal close-ones and would lend a hand to anyone close to her…but if only that helpfulness was the same with others it would be different. Alexis lived in a palace of luxury and was so aloof but one day, a servant of hers became jealous and planned to tell one of the slaves to kidnap her. And one day they did. She was kidnapped and forced to become a slave to a queen of a faraway land (someplace in Persia) and had to swallow her pride to become a helper. Though, I don’t think this is what the name is based on, because mainly it was a Greek masculine name and was already used. To me, Alexis always meant ‘luxury’ (lexis) and the ‘al’ could stand for ‘noble, royal.’
– Anonymous User 4/8/2006

Alexis Smith is a bearer of this name. Not too sure who she is though.
– Anonymous User 6/4/2006

Alexis is one of the cute little Asian girls on Jon and Kate Plus 8.

ALICE:
Alice is a great, great name, and it has the word ice in it!
– Anonymous User 6/9/2005

There’s this song that I know and it goes :”Who the F*** is Alice?” I love that song.
– GuessModel 4/7/2006

AMY:
Amy means “Dark Goddess,” “Bringer of evil,” “She who entrances”.
– Anonymous User 4/26/2005
::::
How dare people say that Amy is an evil name! That is a load of rubbish! It means “beloved” which means very much loved! Cor blimey! Get it right! Just because your name isn’t Amy!
– Xx_amy_xX 6/3/2005

ANN:
I personally think that Ann is a name that is merely satisfactory, however, what comes out of my mind now has NOTHING to do with degrading America, I mean no harm or harrassment, so please don’t call me diabolic! I have to agree with fellow user gaelruadh19 about one person with a petulant, malevolent, nefarious mind- American controversial bestselling conservative author and constitutional attorney, Ann Coulter! She said simply gruesome things about Canada when former Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin was elected on November 30th/2003! How America is protecting Canada with a nuclear shield, how she hates Canadians because of some of us speak French! She also said that one day America can turn around and crush them on Fox! Along with Mr.Carlson, they thought that every Canadian was too busy dog sledding to care about politics! How juvenile and ignorant was that? Then, I thought that I would never forgive her. Until of course, I learned she was conservative – just like my family and I. Now that we have Stephen Harper, she must have gotten over herself, which is a relief! I just wish that she would publically take her inexusable words back! Long live the name!

Ann Berlin also had this name. The first of all of king Henry’s wives. Exiled because she could not give him a heir.
– jessica22 11/28/2005

ASHLEE:
Seems to like me a stupid way to modernize a perfectly good name. No offense to anyone who has it, unles you’re Ashlee Simpson, in which case, I hate you.
– patchworkgirl 4/12/2006

BEN:
Ben means “feces” in Japanese.
– Anonymous User 2/28/2006

I don’t really like this name, but the drummer from The Fray is named Ben. I love The Fray and he is really hot, so this name is growing on me.
– Anonymous User 6/29/2006

BETH:
Butch Walker has a song called “Bethamphetamine” which cracks me up.
– pandasayscynical 12/16/2007

My mom had a friend named Beth and she died. And Beth March from Little Woman also died, so this name always makes me feel sad.

– emiliana94 8/5/2006

BLAIR:
I think Blair is such an awesome name! My friend’s name is Blair (he’s a guy) When I think of the name Blair, I think of someone who listens to rock music and is the most opinionated person I know.
– Anonymous User 12/17/2005

For some strange reason, Blair Witch comes to mind, but that doesn’t really have an effect on me. The thing that does, is Miss Blaire, my creepy old art teacher who had a strange looking rocking horse in her classroom.
– Anonymous User 7/15/2007

BRIAN:
Could also be another variation of the word brAIn, as in having a brain = being smart.
— G0B 12/22/2005

Uh, I doubt it.
— Emmasj 3/8/2007

CHRISTINE:
Christine is a beautiful name in my opinion, with a lovely, warm sound, yet quite reasonable and classical. Too bad it means a Christian, as I’m going to raise my child in the Wiccan tradition.
– Anonymous User 9/2/2006

I think the name Christine is a beautiful name, That’s my name and I have gotten many compliments. It sounds good for a girl that has darker hair or was born in the spring!
– calli_gurl13 1/25/2007

CINDY:
Cindy, what a wonderful name. I don’t really need much to be reminded of my love, Cindy, because she is always present in my mind, but it’s always nice to read her name, hear it pronounced or to just think of it. Cin-dy. The sound of that name flows from my lips…and I smile.
Cindy: the one who is always as near to me as my heart, for she owns a piece of it. If I place my hand on my chest, close my eyes and think the name Cindy, I see her…and I smile.
– Anonymous User 7/29/2005

Fist of all Cindy is not related to Cynthia. Sindy is a common usage of the name Cindy in Great Britain. The name really does not have a relation with the name Cynthia. It is common error given by Cynthias who prefer to be called Cindy. The name Cindy it comes from the word “Cinder” wich means ashes. An example of this application is Cindyrella, called that way because she was used to be filled with ash for sleeping by the fireplace. Therefore Cindy, I like to say means “who comes from the ashes”.
– Sicova 10/25/2007

CLIFF:
No offense to anyone with this name, but for some reason this name reminds me of death. :/ Even though I have that weird connection with that name, I think it is a pretty okay name.
– Anonymous User 6/10/2007

COWESSESS:
I am shocked at the immaturity and ignorance of the previous commenters. Of course Cowessess does not come off that way to the Native Americans who use it, because they speak a different language! I actually find the name very appealing. I see a very pretty, strong Native American girl fitting this name perfectly.
— CamilleTheGreat 6/3/2007

Even though it is listed as a masculine name?
— Bellula 7/29/2007

Who’d want to name their child after a lady’s front bottom?
– hana 1/27/2006

GRACE:
My middle name is Grace and I used to hate it! Now that I’m 13, I love it! I am very proud of my middle name, because as of a few years ago, I am named after a cancer survior!
– pinkiexox 2/4/2006

I get so annoyed with all this STUPID talk of Grace simply meaning graceful. It does not! It means something TOTALLY different! It means His saving Grace. That gift He gave to us by having His son die on the cross.
– gravey 10/30/2007

Old Gregg is a recurring character on the show “The Mighty Boosh.”

HARMONY:
The HMS Harmony is a part of the Harry Potter fanverse. People who support the ‘ship’ (short for relationship) between main characters Harry and Hermione are said to “sail the HMS Harmony.” The ‘ship’ got its name by combining the names Harry and Hermione, and also supports the “Harmony” that flows between them in the books.
– Emmasj 4/5/2007

HAROLD:
Boring, old and over-used, but I mean, you have to feel sorry for King Harold and that arrow in his eye, poor guy. (Hey that ryhmes!)
– Anonymous User 10/25/2006

Harold Saxon! I hear The Sound Of Drums!

Heather is a beautiful name. I think it means kind, gentle, caring, and sounds like an angel’s name.
– Anonymous User 2/11/2005

I have this keychain that a friend gave me that says… “A name taken from the plant. She is strong-willed and determined, and will succeed in everything she tries. She knows her own mind.” Very true!
– charmedgirl 8/30/2005

My name is Heather and I love having that name. I’ve seen a Heather flower and it is very beautiful like me.
– JoJo Monkeygirl8345 2/20/2006

This name reminds me of a feather.
– Taydbug112 11/6/2006

My name is Heather, and I hate it. Trust me parents out there reading this, as a teenager of current, you honestly wouldn’t want to name your child Heather. Not only is it associated with snooby people, it is also has an entire list of words that people rhyme it with, It gets annoying quikly. Especially if you get called “Heather feather” or have ridiculous rap-type sentences made about you. “Her name is Heather, it ryhmes with feather, she wears black leather!” Uggghhh. Or, you could always stick with this name and make sure you raise a dumb, practically illiterate child so that they never understand anything in this place we call the world and are seen as the stereotypical moron that she will automatically be deemed! Cheers!
– CoheedAndCambriaNerd 2/9/2007

Elegant and understated, a name that will serve a girl well all her life. (Now I sound like Orddu from THE CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN. If you haven’t read those books, by the way, I highly recommend them.)

JASPER:
I adore this name. If I had a pet lion, I would name it Jasper.
– thefancyapple 8/29/2007

JOCASTA:
I love this name! But it should never be given to a child. After all, would you enjoy thinking that your grandson would grow up to have sex with his mother, Jocasta? Not to mention that she would be incredibly teased throughout school – and no one would want to marry her, considering the boys would be afraid that one day, their son would come and murder them. Great name, though! ^.^
– Emmasj 3/6/2007

They are hard workers and, [I know this sounds weird but it has been scientifically proven] people with this name have a love for peanut butter.

MARIA:
Maria is the name of someone unique in their own way – an artist, a dancer, or just someone on the opposite side of the classroom. This name represents beauty from within (or in my best friend’s case, from the outside also) and compassion.
– PssycatDoll 11/4/2005

It’s a nice name to have, provided you never come across any people who realise it rhymes with a host of embarrasing diseases. And if you don’t mind your stubborn family constantly calling you “Marie”, then you’re laughing.
– Miss Natla 6/29/2005

I think this name is very pretty, and there is always the song stating, “My Mariiiiiiiiiiiaaaaa”. And also there is the lovely Sound of Music! BUT! It reminds me of Mary. Which you can think of two ways. Hopefully you think of the Virgin Mary who gave birth to our savior Jesus Christ. But then you can think of “Bloody Mary” who killed so many innocent people.
– Anonymous User 6/6/2007

MARK:
It was one of my favorite names for men, until I married one. Now it kind of has a negative aftertaste.

– Emmasj 4/2/2007

My name is actually Andrew but I suit the name Pauline much better! All my friends call me Pauline and I answer to it well, although at home I get called Andrew! I’m not gay or getting bullied or anything, it’s just something that’s happened at school!
– Anonymous User 7/6/2005
